Abstract : Digital Waveguides (DWG) are known as a highly efficient approach to physical modeling and sound synthesis of musical instruments. Recently there has been increasing interest in studying other discrete-time paradigms such as Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) schemes as well as Wave Digital Filters (WDF) and their combinations for the same task domain. In this paper we investigate the relation of DWGs and WDFs from new viewpoints. DSP techniques for efficient computation of the models are studied with particular interest in block-based (object-based) formulation for mixed paradigm physical modeling.
