Abstract : We compare JPEG and JPEG 2000 in the context of confidential image tranmission. Considering differend encryption techniques (AES, tripleDES) and transmission media (modem, Bluetooth, WLAN, ethernet), we derive under which circumstances the better compression performance of JPEG 2000 or the higher execution speed of JPEG leads to an overall time-optimal configuration of the entire compression-encryption-transmission chain.
