W7: WWI Projects: "Mobilising the European Contribution to the Wireless World"

Thursday, 23 June 2005, 09:00-17:00
Room: Konferenz 6

The Wireless World Initiative (WWI, www.wireless-world-initiative.org) consists of several coordinated and complementary IST FP6 projects from a system and end-to-end perspective. WWI has the overall objective to define mobile systems and functions that provide the users with an excellent user experience while minimising the required financial investment. Its strategy is to elaborate a common vision on a beyond 3G system concept, to promote the shared vision on a world-wide basis and to promote pre-standardisation activities between the players in the global market, including vendors, network operators, service providers, regulators and the research community.

Currently, four Integrated Projects are part of WWI (Ambient Networks, www.ambient-networks.org/; E2R - End-to-End Reconfigurability, www.e2r.motlabs.com/; MobiLife - www.ist-mobilife.org and WINNER - Wireless World Initiative New Radio, www.ist-winner.org/), with liaisons to other projects such as the Coordination Action MOCCA (www.ist-mocca.org) and the S4All Initiative in EUREKA-ITEA. WWI launched its research activities in January 2004 to lay the foundations for the long-term future of global wireless communications. The WWI approach is a potential model for the implementation of Technology Platforms.

The WWI-consortium will show an update on their acitivities and their results so far. This includes reports from the four research projects, as well as status information about the ongoing cross issues within WWI.
