Workshop

W6: OBAN Project: "Mobility, QoS and Security in Open Wireless Access Networks"

Thursday, 23 June 2005, 09:00-17:00
Room: Konferenz 2

The workshop focuses on how users’ privately disposed wireless LAN networks and their fixed access lines can be utilized to establish a public wireless broadband access overlay network for casually passing users in addition to providing broadband access for residential users.

The long-term vision is a future network which enables people to roam through the landscape while maintaining their communication and agreed QoS without personal involvements like typing in password, answering questions, etc.. This requires seamless mobility and hand-over functionalities, thus the users will not notice when they are leaving and entering wireless zones.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Mobility across dynamic heterogeneous networks
  • Seamless handover within WLANs as well as between different radio technologies
  • Service and resource discovery
  • Location aware / dependent services
  • Quality of Service requirements to support integrated data and multimedia applications
  • Access control and security mechanisms in open wireless networks
  • Secure applications for the wireless and mobile environment

Each talk is scheduled for 45 minutes with 30 minutes for presentation and 15 minutes for discussion.

Authors are invited to submit a presentation in Microsoft Powerpoint or OpenOffice format by April 30, 2005 to the following e-mail address: herbert.almus@tu-berlin.de

Besides the authors name, contact information and a short description of the professional background and activities, every presentation should be attached a short summary (preferable 1 to 2 pages). Submissions must be written and presented in English and will be reviewed by the program committee. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to give the lecture.
