New Editors-in-Chief for EURASIP Journals
New Editor-in-Chief for SpringerOpen EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing as of January 1st, 2013

SpringerOpen and EURASIP would like to sincerely thank Prof. Phil REGALIA, the leaving Editor-in-Chief of EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, for all his valued work on the journal. We would also like to introduce Prof. Geert LEUS, the new Editor-in-Chief, to all readers of the EURASIP Newsletter.

Phil Regalia served as the Editor-in-Chief of EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing (JASP) from January 2008 until his retirement from the position in December 2012. During this time, he positively continued the success story of EURASIP JASP and increased its volume and reputation. During his term the number of well-written articles increased by 38%, and in 2012 Phil Regalia accepted almost 250 articles. An Impact Factor of 0.81 proves that the increase in article numbers rose in parallel to an increase in article quality. Phil Regalia is presently on leave from the Catholic University of America and is now serving as a Program Director at the US National Science Foundation. We all wish him every success in this new position! In recognition of his contribution to the journal over his tenure, in 2010 Phil Regalia received the Meritorious Service Award from EURASIP.

“As the new Editor-in-Chief, I want to get JASP back on a path to growth. The transition to SpringerOpen was not an easy process, but we are back on track now. High-quality special issues are in my opinion key to the success of JASP. They made JASP popular in the early years, and I think we need to go back to these roots. JASP special issues provide an easily accessible and open platform for state-of-the-art research results. Therefore I would like to encourage and invite experienced researchers in all signal processing areas to submit special issue proposals to JASP.”
Geert LEUS, January 2013.

New Editor-in-Chief for SpringerOpen EURASIP Journal on Information Security as of January 1st, 2013

SpringerOpen and EURASIP would like to thank Dr. Andrzej DRYGAJLO, the leaving Editor-in-Chief of EURASIP Journal on Information Security, and to introduce Prof. Stefan KATZENBEISSER, the new Editor-in-Chief, to all readers of the EURASIP Newsletter.

Andrzej Drygajlo served as the Editor-in-Chief of EURASIP Journal on Information Security (JIS) from 2010 until his retirement from the position in December 2012. He was the second Editor-in-Chief of the journal after Mauro Barni. It is often said that taking over such a position is difficult. However, Andrzej Drygajlo rose to the challenge and in particular, he had to cope with the difficult transition period between Hindawi and SpringerOpen. Nonetheless, he achieved a constant level of quality for the journal during the transition period. Thanks to his valued efforts, the number of submitted articles was maintained and the selection process ensured high-quality published articles.

Stefan Katzenbeisser (image missing) Stefan Katzenbeisser received his Ph.D. from the Vienna University of Technology, Austria. After working as a research scientist at the Technical University in Munich, Germany, he joined Philips Research as Senior Scientist in 2006. Since April 2008 he has served as a professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt, heading the Security Engineering group, and a principal investigator at the Center for Advanced Security Research in Darmstadt. His current research interests include Digital Rights Management, data privacy, software security and cryptographic protocol design. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications and served on the program committees of several workshops and conferences devoted to information security. Among others he was program chair of Information Hiding 2005, general chair of the 5th International Conference on Trust and Trustworthy Computing (2012) and workshop chair of the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (2013).
“Information security continues to be an exciting field of research, which constantly re-invents itself. As technology develops and novel applications are introduced, new threats emerge, forcing us to investigate appropriate countermeasures. To cope with the changing security landscape, we decided to broaden the scope of JIS and cover new research domains like network security, cloud privacy and hardware security – without losing our traditional focus, which lies on the boundaries between security and signal processing. We will also update the editorial board to strengthen our expertise in these new areas. As a new Editor-in-Chief as of January 1st 2013, I want to grow EURASIP JIS into a leading journal in its research field. Thus, would I like to encourage all colleagues to join us on this exciting journey by submitting high-quality research papers or proposals for special issues.”
Stefan KATZENBEISSER, January 2013.
