EURASIP Awards: Announcement 2017 Best PhD Awards
EURASIP, the European Signal Processing Association (http://www.eurasip.org), created and maintains a database of PhD theses at http://theses.eurasip.org, which is one of the World's largest in the area of signal processing. The database also keeps track of monthly downloads.

Every year a Committee of experts, nominated by the EURASIP BoD, selects up to three theses related to different areas of signal processing to be awarded. The selection process is based on the evaluation of the impact of the theses, their subsequent journal and conference publications and related citations received, on the download statistics as well as on the review reports of independent reviewers.

The 2017 winners are:

Taneli Riihonen, for the PhD thesis “Design and Analysis of Duplexing Modes and Forwarding Protocols for OFDM(A) Relay Links” (Aalto University, Finland, 2014) supervised by Risto Wichman and Stefan Werner.

Nikos Deligiannis, for the PhD thesis “Distributed Video Coding for Wireless Lightweight Multimedia Applications” (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, 2012) supervised by Adrian Munteanu and Peter Schelkens.

On behalf of the EURASIP Board of Directors, we would like to congratulate the winners.

EURASIP Best Paper Awards - Call for Nominations (deadline Oct 31)
EURASIP Best Paper Awards are presented annually to mark outstanding contributions published in the Journals sponsored by EURASIP.

For the year 2018, the journals which, according to EURASIP regulations, meet the awarding requirements are the following:

  • Signal Processing
  • Image Communication
  • Journal on Advances in Signal Processing
  • Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking

  • All papers published in the above journals that have a publication date in the years 2013 to 2016, are eligible to be awarded. Only papers co-authored by BoD members or members of the selection Committees are not eligible for Best Paper Awards. For each journal, a Committee co-chaired by the EURASIP Awards Chair and the Editor-in-Chief carries out the assessment of the papers. The assessment criteria include:

  • Relevance of the topic.
  • Quality of the technical content.
  • Style of the presentation.
  • Originality.

  • For additional information on the scope and criteria for EURASIP awards, please visit the EURASIP website. There you may find further details of the nomination and awards process.

All EURASIP Members are invited to nominate eligible papers.

Please submit nominations to the EURASIP Awards chair, Kostas Berberidis, by e-mail.
The deadline for nominations is 31st October 2017
    .
We encourage you to share this information with your colleagues and peers.
