President’s Message: Welcome to New Members |
Dear colleagues and students:
Through your registration to the 25th European Signal Processing
Conference (EUSIPCO), which was held on Kos Island, Greece from 28
August to 2 September 2017, you are now a member of the European
Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP). Your membership extends
until 31 December 2018.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to you and I truly hope that you
will continue to support our activities.
Your membership benefits are wide-ranging and valuable, whose
description can be found on our webpage www.eurasip.org.
Firstly, I wish to mention the 10% discount on Open Access publication
charges in our EURASIP-SpringerOpen journals. As a member of EURASIP,
you are entitled to this discount by entering the code TC00888044 at the
end of the submission process, once you are prompted for a SpringerOpen
membership account number.
Many initiatives were launched by EURASIP in the recent past. These
include seasonal schools, some of which have been jointly organised with
other professional organisations and societies, such as the IEEE Signal
Processing Society (SPS). A comprehensive list of seasonal schools held
since 2014 can be found on the EURASIP webpage.
I would like to extend an invitation to you to organise a seasonal
school in your area of expertise or to encourage your colleagues to do
so. Such schools are an invaluable resource, not only for graduate
students, but also for research engineers and established researchers to
discover new and emerging areas or deepen their knowledge in an
established area of signal and image processing research and their
applications. A financial support by EURASIP is available for the
organisation of a seasonal school. For more details, please visit our
webpage.
Another initiative by EURASIP is the launching of Special Area Teams
(SATs) in 2016. The main objective of the Special Area Teams (SATs) is
to facilitate the interaction and communication of EURASIP members in a
specific scientific area. There currently exist eight SATs. Please feel
free to contact the chair of the respective SAT, or the Director for
External Relations, or myself, if you are interested to joining a SAT.
More details about SATs can be found on our webpage.
Should you be a PhD student, feel free to submit a proposal to present
your thesis work in a contest. Should you be shortlisted, you will have
three minutes to present a compelling oration of your thesis and its
significance at one of the EUSIPCO conferences. Should you become the
winner of the contest, you will receive a check over 1000 Euros and a
certificate.
I wish to thank you wholeheartedly for your support of EURASIP and I
wish to encourage you to get involved with any activity you feel
comfortable with, such as nominating for awards, becoming a SAT member,
organising a future EUSIPCO or a seasonal school. Should you have any
suggestion, for example for a new initiative, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
In closing, let me remind you that the next EUSIPCO will be held in
Rome, the beautiful and historical capital city of Italy. EUSIPCO 2018
promises to become another memorable event. The Call for Papers and more
detailed information is available on our webpage or by following the link www.eusipco2018.org.
I very much look forward to welcoming you in Rome in 2018.
With warmest regards,
Abdelhak Zoubir
President, EURASIP
