EURASIP Fellows 2018

In recognition of outstanding achievements in the broad field of Signal Processing, the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) elevates each year a select group of up to a maximum of four scholars to “EURASIP Fellow”, the Association's most prestigious honor. The award consists of a certificate that will be presented to the following individuals during the Opening and Awards Ceremony at EUSIPCO 2018, which will be held in Rome (Italy) from the 3rd to the 7th of September 2018.

Prof. Rémi Gribonval (Université Rennes 1, Inria, France) for contributions to the theory and applications of sparse signal processing and machine learning.

Prof. Franz Hlawatsch (Technische Universität Wien, Austria) for contributions to time-frequency signal processing and statistical signal processing.

Prof. Marc Moonen (KU Leuven, Belgium) for contributions to signal processing for communications, speech and audio applications.

Prof. Antonio Ortega (University of Southern California, USA) for contributions to image and video compression and graph signal processing.

Sincerely yours,

The Early Career Award is awarded to an outstanding researcher and engineer working within the technical scope of EURASIP at an early or mid-stage of his/her career, whose current work shows not only significant scientific achievements but also high potential to advance scientific knowledge through novel, timely and significant endeavors.
This year’s recipient is Dr. Giuseppe Valenzise, “For significant contributions to video coding and analysis”.

The Technical Achievement Award honors a person who, over a period of years, has made outstanding technical contributions to theory or practice in technical areas within the scope of the Society, as demonstrated by publications, patents, or recognized impact in this field.
This year’s recipient is Prof. Michael Unser, “For fundamental contributions to the theory of sparse stochastic processes and sparsity-based signal processing”.

The Group Technical Achievement Award is given to the head of a group in academia or industry that has achieved significant contributions in signal processing and related areas over a number of years.
This year’s recipient is Prof. Björn Ottersten, “For efficient leadership at multiple levels and fundamental contributions in sensor array processing and signal processing for communications”.

The Meritorious Service Award is given to recognize individuals who have given distinguished service to the Society in the form of significant contributions to the development of EURASIP, distinguished service to the advancement and pursuit of the technical objectives of EURASIP, or active cooperation in actions supported or sponsored by EURASIP.
This year’s recipient is Prof. Ana Pérez, “For Leadership and Activities as EURASIP Membership and Awards Director and for Continuous Commitment with EURASIP over the last fifteen years in almost all aspects”.

The Athanasios Papoulis Award is given to honor scientists whose work has had a major impact on various aspects of signal processing education.
This year’s recipient is Prof. Lajos Hanzo , “For inspirational research-led guidance of graduate students, for global education of new multimedia signal processing techniques designed for wireless communications and for research monographs”.
