Report on SPAMEC 2011
The workshop on Signal Processing and Applied Mathematics for Electronics and Communications (SPAMEC 2011) was organized by Signal Processing Group from Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The event was co-sponsored by the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP), Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research (ANCS) and SC WsComm Cluj-Napoca. SPAMEC 2011 took place in the city of Cluj-Napoca, the heart of Transylvania, between 26th and 28th of August 2011.
More than 50 scientists from Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, USA participated in this workshop which finally provided a high level forum for exchange of results and ideas in both theory and practice.
The workshop program included four plenary talks by distinguished scientists: Edward J. Delp (Purdue University, USA), Francesco De Natale (University of Trento, Italy), Radomir S. Stankovic (University of Niš, Serbia) and Andrei Vladimirescu (University of California at Berkeley, USA / Institute Superieur D'Electronique de Paris, France).
The SPAMEC 2011 technical program embraced 30 scientific papers in 6 oral sessions covering areas like multi-antenna communications, channel estimation, equalization and modeling, signal reconstruction, identification and classification, algorithms for multimedia signal processing, audio and speech processing and image and bio-medical signal processing. All papers have been presented by one of its authors. Questions in point and interesting comments completed the presentation of each paper.
Social events were organized to offer an opportunity to discussions between attendees. Two trips were organized: Turda Salt Mine and Aries Valley (August 27) and Western Carpathian Lakes (August 28).
