President's Message: Welcome to New EURASIP Members |
This issue of the EURASIP Newsletter is the first issue sent to our new members who have received EURASIP membership through their EUSIPCO-2012 registration. I would like to extend a warm welcome to these new members. I truly hope they will appreciate and support our activities and initiatives, and perhaps also become actively involved in our operation, by contributing to our journals as an author, reviewer or editor, by organizing workshops and seminar days, by nominating candidates for our awards, etc.
EURASIP is well known for its annual EUSIPCO and for its 10 journals, but there is more to be discovered. In particular, I wish to invite everyone to visit and contribute to our Open Library. The Open Library currently contains all previous EUSIPCO proceedings (starting with the EUSIPCO-1980 proceedings) as well as many other workshop and conference proceedings, all previous EURASIP newsletters, some 400 PhD theses, and a selection of signal processing books. All this material is freely downloadable. We believe this is a very valuable source of information, and hope to be able to expand it further in the future.
Finally, let me reiterate that as a EURASIP member, you enjoy a 10% discount on open access publication charges in EURASIP/SpringerOpen journals (the discount code is posted in your EURASIP member account), discounted member prices for EURASIP/Elsevier journals and selected books by Elsevier and Springer, as well as reduced fees for EURASIP sponsored conferences and seminars.

New EURASIP Job Board Launched |
In September 2012, EURASIP launched a brand new, user-friendly service for hosting announcements related to job vacancies, post-doctoral fellowships and Ph.D. positions in all areas of Signal Processing worldwide. This service, that is in line with EURASIP's philosophy to support the broadest possible dissemination of information to all interested parties, is free of charge and was developed with modern, cost-effective technology. It can be accessed directly at jobs.eurasip.org or via the EURASIP website and we hope that it will soon become a popular board of announcements among the members of the Signal Processing community.

EURASIP Awards: Call for PhD Thesis Submission and Best PhD Thesis Award |
EURASIP, the European Association for Signal Processing, created and maintains a database of PhD manuscripts, which is one of the World's largest in the area of signal processing. The database also keeps track of monthly download statistics and regularly publishes the 10 top downloaded theses on its website.
Every year a committee of experts nominated by the EURASIP BoD selects up to three theses related to different areas of signal processing to be awarded. The selection process is based on the evaluation of the impact of the theses, their subsequent journal and conference publications and related citations received, and on the review reports of three independent reviewers as well as on the download statistics. The download statistics are instrumental only in forming a short-list of the top 20 theses.
In order to select the 2013 best PhD theses, the temporal window of the years 2008 through 2010 is considered. The awards will be presented during the Awards Ceremony at EUSIPCO 2013. Each award consists of a certificate and of a travelling & accommodation reimbursement of 1K Euros for attending the Awards Ceremony.
If you want to make your PhD thesis available in the EURASIP database and make it eligible for the Best PhD Thesis Award, please visit the submission page and upload your thesis.
