President's message |
Dear members of the European Association for Signal Processing:
This short message is meant to express my sincere gratitude for your support and trust in the past years for our association, The European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP),
and to welcome you to the New Year 2018; I wish you much success professionally as well as personally. EURASIP lives by its members and volunteers.
Undoubtedly, the strengths of EURASIP are the result of the selfless service and dedication of its volunteers at all levels.
They offer their precious time to make EURASIP prosper and grow.
I would like to use this newsletter to thank wholeheartedly one of our long-term member and supporter, Professor Björn Ottersten,
who stepped down as the Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the EURASIP journal `Signal Processing'.
Professor Björn Ottersten was appointed in 2005 as EiC for Signal Processing.
He held this office for 13 years during which he was able to further improve the quality and spread of our flagship journal.
During all these years, Björn was concerned merely about the quality of the journal which he managed to raise and thus to make the journal compete with other high-quality journals in
our discipline. When I asked him some years ago what his goals with the journal were, he unhesitantly replied “to increase the impact factor to the level of the competing journals,”
and he managed! The increase in impact factor is by a factor 6 since 2006. The recipe is not a secret, but hard work. With the support of a team of dedicated editors,
Björn continuously worked to improve the editorial process, providing timely response and high quality reviews. In 2017, the journal received nearly 2000 submissions
(nearly five times more than when he started as EiC) and the acceptance rate in 2016 was around an impressive 16%. The review speed has increased considerably to an average time to
first decision of 4 weeks and an average time to final decision of just above 6 weeks.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of EURASIP and all who served under your leadership on the editorial board, I wish to thank you, Björn, wholeheartedly for the work you have done.
I also wish to welcome Geert Leus who has taken the role of EiC for the journal; the journal is indeed in very good and experienced hands and
I am confident that Geert will improve the journal further.
Abdelhak Zoubir, President
