Goodbye Message of Resigning President |
I have had the fortune of having many memorable experiences with
EURASIP. My personal highlight of my Presidency, was the presentation of
fellowships and awards at the European Signal Processing Conference
(EUSIPCO). These can be very emotional, especially when seeing
colleagues receiving appreciation for many years of hard work. Of
course, this recognition would not be possible without nominations and I
urge you all to nominate colleagues and collaborators so that future
presidents may also delight in rewarding distinguished work in our field.
As of 1 January 2019, I will move to the Past-President seat, as a
non-voting member of the Board of Directors (BoD). It has been a great
experience to have worked with the outgoing members of the BoD, Jean-Luc
Dugelay, and Fernando Pereira, both of whom I wish to thank for their
exceptional support and dedication. My heartfelt thanks go to Fulvio
Gini who has been an invaluable asset to the BoD for fourteen years, and
especially a tremendous support for me as President.
I very much look forward to be working with the newly elected members,
Björn Ottersten, Augusto Sarti, Jean-Yves Tourneret, and Alle-Jan van
der Veen (re-elected). Kostas Berberidis and Toon van Waterschoot will
continue serving on the BoD and I fondly look forward to continuing
working with them. As already announced in the October issue of our
newsletter, Patrick Naylor has been appointed by the current BoD to the
position of President. I wish him a very successful presidency. I am
confident that EURASIP is in good hands and that he will continue to
provide great leadership to the Association.
Over the last few years, EURASIP introduced some changes in an attempt
to bring the Association's activities and initiatives to a larger
community, so as to increase our visibility, especially among young
researchers and PhD students. The excellent Seasonal Schools in Signal
Processing, the lively Special Area Teams (SATs), the extensive Awards
program and the 3 Minutes Thesis (3MT) contest are all testimonies of
the tireless efforts of the BoD. More details about all the programs can
be found in the EURASIP webpage.
The flagship conference of EURASIP, the European Signal Processing
Conference (EUSIPCO) continues to attract many delegates from all over
the world. It will continue to be a success. Undoubteldy, these
conferences are not possible without the tireless, committed work of our
volunteers. EUSIPCO 2019 in A Coruña (Spain) is organized by Mónica F.
Bugallo and Luis Castedo. I wish to thank them for the hard work to
organising a conference that promises to be a resounding success in an
exceptional place of great beauty. More detailed information about
EUSIPCO 2019 is available at www.eusipco2019.org.
